Reading through college acceptance packages makes me deliriously happy. I think I'll try to decide between Vassar and Wesleyan, though I have to say FWAH to Vassar's for their excellent acceptance package. Its so pretty, and thus appeals to my wholly superficial self. It also has a cd with a video made by a senior film student I haven't watched yet, but I'm certain it will be entertaining.
Sarah Lawrence also has an excellent acceptance package - it has a quote from Billy Collins (who I love) on the cover. Its a pity he's no longer on the poetry faculty at Sarah Lawrence, I have to say that that would be an insanely big draw for me. Oh, to breathe the same air (sort of) as literary bigwig whose poetry makes my toes curl with happiness. I brought Nine Horses to school once, and Zareen and I read his vignettes during Econs lecture, sighing together about it.
I'm reading about college alums right now - did you know members of the Bravery were from Vassar? I hear from PopBitch that The Bravery is completely manufactured though. I wouldn't know, I've never heard them, only heard of them. Its the hype machine starting up again, I suppose. Anne Hathaway goes to/went to Vassar, but I'm not terribly excited by her. Did you know Vera Wang went to Sarah Lawrence? I did not. Now that, I do find terribly exciting. Though Billy Collins being on the Sarah Lawrence faculty is the bees knees. Alice Walker was from Sarah Lawrence too! Ooo.
I've already seen the NYU acceptance package (my brother's), so I'm not surprised by that one. I do like the way they plaster the inside of the folder with pictures of the city, though. These colleges really know how to sell their stuff, I'd say. Fancy advertising and packaging. How splendid.
Happy as I am about pawing through all these things, I am slightly troubled by the fact that I am wide awake at 4.28am.
I went through all my purchases from America, and I alarmed by the sheer amount of nonsense I have procured. I bought about 8 dvds, 3 books, 1 notebook, lots of candy, 3 magazines, 3 pairs of sweatpants, 7 hoodies (I think), 2 girls boxer/tank sets, 1 belt, 1 watch, an assortment of facial/body products, tons of underwear, ski boots, a new ski jacket, 2 pairs of shoes, 6 pairs of socks, some bags, a stuffed elephant (because I am a child) .... among other things. Oh, and a very lovely long backless evening dress, for weddings that I am frequently underdressed to. I do not know how I manage to accumulate this much nonsense, and the thought of having to bring everything I want for college is mind boggling. I shall have to develop an expert hand at packing an immense amount of things into 2 pieces of luggage.
And I'm just quite excited about the prospect of college now. A little apprehensive, due to the brain freeze my mind has been in since school ended, I'm barely starting the Claudine novels and the last book I finished was the Lord Of The Flies. I feel compelled to start reading academic literature and take classes in things. I want to take a capoeira class, learn Spanish, finally start learning to drive, and my dad is trying to convince me to take golf lessons. I'm not sure how I'll handle the last one, because watching golf on tv for more than a minute makes me want to fall asleep, or shoot myself. Either way, I must be educated. Oh, college. Dooodle dooodle dum. Oh the expectation is killing me.
