I watched the last episode of season one of The O.C. on television, for the third time, I think. Saw my BCBG dress on it, and heard one of my top 3 songs played on it again. Somehow I get really depressed when songs I like are released to the masses. My poor Jeff Buckley. I used to write "Lover You Should've Come Over", the title of one of my favourite Buckley songs all over my Biology textbook, my hands, my essays, and random parts of my notebook, and his high falsetto would replay in my mind and pierce right through me.
Do you know what my top 3 are? Joni Mitchell's A Case of You, Buckley's & Wainwright's covers of Hallelujah, Ben Harper's cover of The Drugs Don't Work. They always make me cry. I cry at everything as long as no one is there to see me, in case you didn't know. I cry when I recite Yeats. What are your top 3? What makes you cry? Tell me. I'd like to know.
Sufjan Stevens, I must inform you, has the capacity to make me cry. I haven't had the opportunity to buy his cds even after listening to his music for months, so you should be kind and buy me some.
Also : rocking out to Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Loretta Lynn. The Streets always makes me laugh (he is THE best white rapper, I don't care) and I am illicitly downloading the Beastie Boys' new album, the one I've been meaning to listen to for years.
I feel a re-watch of High Fidelity is in order. I think I've watched the damn movie 5 times already. I never really tire of it. What's better than a movie about music and love and making lists of perfect songs and loves lost and Marvin Gaye and the Beta Band and Peter Frampton and Top 5 records, anyway?
