So, this is what I have done the past 24 hours -
I talked to Juliet for 1 and a half hours about everything and nothing (what the best conversations between best friends are made of, naturally) at 1 in the morning as she procrastinated over the completion of her English final. I hope to get her pretty Christmas cards of her posing with her roomates in Santa hats. I miss my little Juliet with her cute t shirts and little socks, in all her smallness and wonderfulness that causes me to write in bad English without caring. Over the phone we went "Ahhhh you'll/i'll be back in a week! I miss you! I love you!" like the little girls we are, earnest and eager and needy. I really miss my Jhuilliet.
I began reading Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone after Laura brought over the whole Harry Potter series from Penny, which she is loaning me, somewhat appalled by the fact that I've never read it. So far, so good. Children's books always please me.
I walked around my room and fell asleep at 4am, only to be woken up 5 hours later by the INCESSANT barking of my annoying dogs. I tumbled down the stairs looking frightful, only to see N. and his mom downstairs, and croaked out an early morning greeting to them. Auntie H. and I discussed the many ways that I could get rid of my dogs or their barking, which I know is very cruel, but an almost unavoidable product of being tortured by their abnormally loud and persistent barking at everybody.
I was supposed to go watch After The Sunset with Anushka, but cancelled to do my college applications. I finished my NYU application and had a good feeling about it. It would be nice to get in, but I don't know if my brother's admission to Stern somewhat dampens my own chances of getting in. I wrote as honestly as I could. Sometimes I wonder if people will mistake my rambling about why I love literature as being disingenuous. I hope I can get by in the big city and a big school should I decide to go. My mother tells me I'm not street smart, and that may very well be true. I'm rather timid, actually. I am often overwhelmed by the feeling of being moored on an island, and it comes to me without warning. I am always lost, fumbling my way around things, worried to ask for directions, worried to sound stupid, worried to be wrong, worried to be noticed at all. Wonder how I'll fare anywhere, really.
Kim called and asked me to go out, and seeing as how I haven't seen her in 1 1/2 years, went to meet Clare and her in Orchard. That is, only after I lunched langourously while watching The O.C. and Desperate Housewives. We spent so much time, or at least I spent so much time talking about how much I worry about my A level grades and not getting in anywhere and coping on my own. . Anyway, I stopped Kim once in a while to go "American accent! You have an American accent!" It was funny.
After another dinner at Din Tai Fung, during which we discussed the ridiculousness of mushu chicken and kung pao chicken, we adjourned to my house again, because there's just nothing to do in Orchard Road. We watched Dirty Dancing 2, which Clare and I love despite its trashiness because its all about dancing. I also love it because Diego Luna is in it. Diego Luna being one half of the famous Y Tu Mama Tambien pair. (The other half? Gael Garcia Bernal, you fool. I'm vaguely obsessed with the man. I have 3 of his movies on dvd. I need to watch Bad Education, the new Pedro Almodovar bit he's the star of, should it ever reach our well-censored shores.)
Inspired by all the swishy dresses and blaring Cuban music of the movie, I just donned my Marc Jacobs dress with the fluid skirt that was tailormade for dancing and twirling and bumbled around my room to the music in my head. (Cue the Ally Mcbeal nostalgia, here.) I quite miss dance classes. Something in my body aches for the controlled grace of ballet I abandoned when JC started, something in me aches for the abandon of other forms. I must return to it.
Either way, I'm sure you were enthralled by this post. Till tomorrow, friends!
