Hong Kong and Miscellany

I wrote a very long entry on change and hong kong but I think I'll keep that to myself, spare you the introspection and leave you with a few disconnected sentences instead.

One
Its things like, the way Hong Kong looks beautiful from afar. It strangely resembled the coastal views from the Isle of Skye that stunned me. Its funny how the world looks the same to me sometimes, like how Africa reminded me of New Mexico. I cannot explain it.

Two
Shiny buildings, glossy windows that are environmentally unfriendly, I.M.Pei buildings, HSBC buildings. Staying in my aunt's apartment high above the city with the sloping mountain at my window every morning. London bombings on television, and feeling my heart sink to the floor. Shared a small bed with my mother. Tried to figure out if eighteen inches of personal space is all we really do need and frequently ruminated over the fact that humans are inherently solitary creatures.

Three
Lane Crawfords all over the place teeming with Chloe and Vanessa Bruno and Paul & Joe - all of which pander to my most feminine and girlish sartorial desires. I went into every single Marc Jacobs boutique I saw. The things I bought can be summed up in names : Betsey Johnson, Miss Sixty, Hugo Boss, Zara, Mango, Diesel, Fornarina, Marc Jacobs, BCBG ( a fairy dress, so to speak ), and Kate Spade - my big ticket item. I have no idea why I bought it (kicks self in head). Also, Birkenstocks that hurt like a bitch. I demand to know which idiot let on that Birkenstocks pass for comfortable footwear. I have something to say to him.

Four
A lot of dimsum and a lot wanton noodles and Chinese desserts and tea that I normally never drink and fruits for breakfast and Pret a Manger for tea and macaroons that cost 3 dollars apiece. Sentences like "I think the xiao long bao at Din Tai Fung is better" or "I kind of like Kok Kee wanton mee better" tended to leave my mouth every once in a while.

Five
Holiday reading material was Lionel Shriver's We Need To Talk About Kevin, which is many levels of excellent. I bookmark pages with illuminating passages. The author has a baffling ability to analyze the human psyche, and confront our most awful truths - the sort even we deny to ourselves, for fear that we are terrible, evil, or something else. Finished Harry Potter too, but then everyone did. Was distressed by the last bit of the book, but then again all her books do that to me. There are a lot of books I need to read before I go but I don't really think I'll have the time to.

Six
Defended Buffy The Vampire Slayer to 50 something year olds. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be doing this for the rest of my natural life.

Seven
Counting down the days to college, and staring at the things I have to bring (or that I may not be able to), and not having talked to my roomate yet, and worrying about how to handle change, and wishing I could call people and wishing I would stop being sick and walking around with this headache like no oxygen is getting to my brain.

Eight
Currently eating my macaroons. I like that they are overpriced, and perfectly wrapped in a Tiffany-blue box with a French name embossed in gold on it. I like that they let me choose the colour of the ribbon that they tied around the box. It gives these coloured, egg whites an overinflated sense of importance.
